4. How do I find out who owns the copyright in a particular work?

If the work is a published work, it will usually contain a copyright notice giving details of copyright ownership. If there is no copyright notice but there are details of authorship, you may contact the author to ascertain the owner of the copyright.

If the above does not help you find out who is the copyright owner of the work, you may have to contact collecting societies representing copyright owners to see if the work is in copyright and whether any collecting society represents the copyright owner. (For a list of the major collecting societies in Hong Kong , please go to question 5.) Apart from this, you may also try searching for the author or copyright owner of the work on the Internet.
