1. What is the court’s jurisdiction to make interim maintenance orders, and how long do they last?

Under section 5 of the Matrimonial Proceedings and Property Ordinance (Cap. 192), the court has jurisdiction to make interim maintenance orders for the benefit of a “child of the family”.

An order for periodical payments cannot begin earlier than the date on which the petition for divorce, nullity, or judicial separation is presented and will continue to have effect until further order is made by the Court.
